KEY TO THE CITY

Vineland High School and Rutgers University standout football star Isiah Pacheco was recently honored with a parade and key to the city to recognize and congratulate him following his selection to the NFL by the Kansas City Chiefs in April. Pacheco was drafted in the seventh round and was the 251st overall selection in the draft. The ceremony in front of City Hall was more of a celebration than a formality, featuring music that had the crowd of hundreds dancing and singing along. VHS football coach Dan Russo was the first to begin the football accolades, speaking on Pacheco’s time at VHS where he was a four-year captain. Russo presented Pacheco with the College Athlete of the Year award for his 2021-22 season at Rutgers. He also presented Pacheco with his well-worn and patched up football jersey from his time at VHS. Speaking on Pacheco’s experiences in the youth football program were Jasmine Gomez-Demby from the Vineland Midget Football League, former VMFL coach Gary Johnson, and Vineland Blitz president Nick Basile. Basile, along with Blitz coaches, presented Pacheco with a plaque honoring his leadership and dedication to the team. Following musical performances, the ceremony concluded with Mayor Anthony Fanucci presenting Pacheco with a key to the city, seen here, back by members of the VHS football team and youth program who cheer on the special moment. The Chiefs open training camp on Wednesday, July 27.
