Historical Cemetery Tour Is Oct. 30

ELMER — The Greater Elmer Area Historical Society will host its second annual Historical Cemetery Tour from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 30 Six cemeteries in Upper Pittsgrove, Pittsgrove, and Elmer will be included in the tour, covering the colonial era, the 19th century, and the early 20th century. Tickets will be available for purchase at the historical society, located at 117 Broad St. beginning at 12:30 p.m. on the day of the tour and will be available until 4:30 p.m. Tickets cost $12 each, and include a map showing the location of each cemetery open for the tour. Funding benefits the non-profit historical society.

A tour guide will be at each site to share the stories of some of the local residents buried in these cemeteries, including veterans of the Revolutionary War and Civil War, prominent citizens who helped found our communities, and those who suffered tragic deaths. Ticket-holders can visit all six cemeteries, or pick and choose certain sites. Each site’s tour should last about 15 minutes, or two hours for the entire tour.
