GOP 2nd Congressional Dist. Candidate Launches Campaign
OCEAN CITY – In front of a standing room only crowd at the Flanders Hotel’s Garden Room, Linda Biamonte announced her GOP 2nd Congressional District bid for Congress on March 6.
Her prepared remarks were as follows:
As we gather here today, it is important to note that 234 years ago our forefathers sought to dissolve the political bands which bound them to England.
They had lost something.
They had lost their rights as Englishmen and now were forced to face their difficult declaration.
As I have traveled all around our district; in her factories, in her schools, and around her government I have found her citizens trying to find their voice in our Republic.
You see, as then, we have lost something. It is time that we declare that in these serious times; we want serious candidates, with serious intentions, with serious values.
We have lost something when career politicians in Washington don’t act like Statesmen at all.
I’m a Republican because I believe in hard work, self-reliance, less government, the preservation of our Judeo-Christian values, and the free enterprise system that has made America the envy of the world.
We have lost something when Washington cannot keep its hands out of our pockets, only to fund limited initiatives to fix all of society’s problems.
They do NOT deserve one more red cent of the American taxpayers’ money until they fix the budget problems in Washington.
We have lost something when the Free Market, which has made our Nation great, is looked at with disdain in the corridors of Washington, and government is heralded as a solution.
We have lost something when approving trillions of dollars for pet projects is seen as virtue and responsible and effective government is seen as a vice.
We have lost something when our representatives purposefully take 2.6 trillion dollars out of our economy by refusing to tap our God-given natural resources in crude and natural gas.
At the same time, through Cap and Trade, our representatives voted to mandate stifling taxes and investments in unproven theories, ignoring more responsible ways to accommodate both our economy and our environment. Not only did my opponent vote for that destructive legislation, he voted for others to the detriment of the American taxpayer, “Cash for Clunkers” and “Card Check” along with countless other destructive votes.
We have lost something when our most precious commodity, our children, are forced to grow in an age of terrorism and uncertainty. The world we live in is truly a dangerous place. Yet, there are those, in our country, who live in denial. They will tell you that we live in a dangerous situation by the virtue of our actions. We need to let them hear that we are in a dangerous situation because there is an enemy who is out there to kill us, merely for the freedom we believe in.
As a strong American, I am an enthusiastic supporter of our military and understand that national security starts with securing our borders here in the U.S. and carries on to the various parts of the earth that harbor terrorists so that we can fight these battles in cities like Fallujah, Baghdad and Kabul and not LA, Chicago, or New York City. We have to stop treating terrorists like common thieves and understand that interrogations are meant to protect Americans and are not an opportunity to provide educational lessons to terrorists about Miranda.
While we have truly lost something in our society, it is imperative that we get our country back, and as we gather here, we are reminded that we can. As Ronald Reagan said, “There are no easy answers, but there are simple ones. We must have the courage to do what is morally right.” As a successful businesswoman, I know what it is like to lead people and make decisions that affect people for good. Now I have decided to run to be your Congresswoman to help you find your voice in our republic as well.
I am going to put the Represent back in Representative.
I am the serious candidate for these serious times. I am proud to have served our party. I am proud of my service to our country through business.
I am running because I think the country right now is on the wrong track, and the people of the 2nd District deserve a Representative who shares their values. Right now we don’t have that.
My opponent has spent the last 16 years standing with Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid in opposing Drilling, Supporting new spending and introducing tax increases.
I am asking you for your support in 2010. The choice is yours, will you stand with my tax and spend opponent, Nancy Pelosi, and Harry Reid, or will you stand with me?!
It is now time for new representation and a new direction in Washington. With your support and your vote, we can put an end to career politicians such as my opponent.
Do you want someone who will stand and shout NO for you, or someone who will just sit and say yes? I appreciate your taking the time to listen to my appeal. God bless you and God bless America!
