VINELAND - Members of the Rotary Club of Vineland recently celebrated Rotary International's 105th birthday with birthday cake and a birthday wish for clean water from fresh water wells.
Locally, efforts of the Rotary Club of Vineland club will soon pay off in the form of fresh water wells that will provide clean water for thousands of people in Kano, Nigeria. The club will be funding the drilling of three new wells to serve the needs of residents in three villages, who currently have no source of clean water. As part of the club’s recent birthday celebration, Fresh Water Wells Project Coordinator, Jim Moffatt, announced that the first of three planned wells will begin operating in two weeks.
Club members are raising funds for the two remaining wells, at a cost of $3,400 each. Fundraising efforts include donations by individual club members, as well as the sponsorship of a Non-BBQ Barbecue in cooperation with Joe's Poultry. Tickets are $8 each and include a full dinner platter of half a chicken, sides of potato salad, cole slaw and applesauce, and a roll with butter. All net proceeds support the club's Fresh Water Wells project. For tickets or more information, call Mike at 696-1308. Tax deductible donations are also being accepted from individual members of the community. They can be sent to Vineland Rotary Charities; P.O. Box 7, Vineland, NJ 08362.
