EXPECTED HEAVY SNOW SATURDAY has forced the cancellation of this year's annual SOUP-ER Bowl Sale which was scheduled for 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 5 at the Fortescue Chapel.
Sponsors are scurrying to get the word out to people NOT to plan for any food donations, and also, of course, for those who were planning for this mouth-watering annual event to even attempt to come out.
Once source said that the expected storm might begin as rain along the bayfront, but eventually turn to show with the result that roads may be covered with dreaded black ice.
Everyone involved in the event is disappointed to have to call off the sale, but all believe it is the right decision to make given what some are predicting to be well over a foot of snow.
So, remember, the SOUP-ER Bowl Sale is cancelled for this Saturday.
Here, from the initial information--before the cancellation--is what WAS to be:
This is a community favorite, first-come, first-served. Visitors can eat-in or take-out or both. In addition, to your favorite soups, Walter has promised his Pork’n Sauerkraut on a Bun, with coffee, tea, and sodas, plus yummy desserts. As always the church depends on donations of goodies from friends throughout the area. And, Betty Higbee is already planning to run the kitchen. Hopefully, Eileen Baginsky and Ron and Judy Loper will be on hand to assist.
This fund-raiser is one of two for the chapel, the other being Celebrate Fortescue in May. More details will follow. Donors for our SOUP-ER Bowl Sale can give Ruth a call at 447-4125. Help Fortescue Chapel keep going strong, with Pastor Fred Goos leading the spiritual journey.
HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS of The Downe Academy, Dividing Creek, were treated to the splendid art exhibit at the Riverfront Renaissance Center for the Arts, Millville. Art teacher, Frank D’Autrechy, guided the students through watercolor, acrylic, oil, and pastel paintings where students verbalized what they liked most about their favorite artwork.
Several inner-city, young men commented on a watercolor picture, of a boy and dad going fishing, and stated that they wish they had a dad to take them fishing. Two young ladies were fascinated by a hidden picture painting that “...really makes you think...” In all the opportunity to view professional quality art was inspiring and appreciated.
