VINELAND — The Cumberland County College Board of Trustees on Jan. 19 approved the college’s 2010-2011 budget, and tuition rates.
The board approved increasing tuition in 2010-2011 from $94 per credit for in-county residents to $99 per credit. It is anticipated that CCC’s tuition rate will rank 12th among the 19 community colleges in New Jersey. Fees will remain the same. The per-semester tuition and fees costs for full-time students taking 12 credits – with the tuition increase - will be about $1,536 starting July 1.
“While we are always reluctant to raise tuition rates, these additional expenditures are required in order for us to keep pace with the amazing growth of this college...” CCC President Dr. Thomas Isekenegbe said.
The board adopted a $25.3 million budget for the 2010-2011 fiscal year, providing the amount to be raised by the Board of Chosen Freeholders as $6.7 million for operational costs and requesting the Board of School Estimates of CCC to recommend and certify the same to the Board of Chosen Freeholders. CCC’s 2010-2011 budget is driven by a projected 4 percent increase in student credit hours over the 2009-2010 budget, which was $23.1 million.
More than 50 percent of CCC’s students receive some form of financial assistance. Tuition and fees at CCC will still fall within the amounts covered by Pell grants. There are also opportunities for high school students to earn a free CCC education though School Counts!, NJ STARS, and other scholarships.
In 1998, 2,490 students registered for fall semester courses. There were 4,014 students enrolled for the 2009 fall semester: CCC’s largest class ever. The major increases in enrollment have come via 18-24-year-olds.
