The belt level is a feat very few women attain according to Brian Harrison, communications director of the New Jersey Black Belt Association.
In addition to her exceptional fighting skills, which earned her the designation of the number three rank in women’s fighting in the country, Karate Master Carol Wood is renowned for her 30 year teaching career in the Goju Karate system. During this time, she has developed and mentored 30 black belts.
At age 40, Wood entered the Camden County Corrections Academy. The training consisted of 14 weeks of intense and difficult exercise programs with cadets much younger than herself.
As with her career in the martial arts, her perseverance, discipline, and dedication drove her not just to succeed but to excel.
