BRIDGETON — Rutgers Master Gardeners of Cumberland County are once again cooperating with the Cohanzick Zoo in sponsoring a Scarecrow contest for schools and youth organizations in Cumberland and Salem counties. This year’s theme is New Jersey Born Entertainers! Art teachers in high, middle, elementary schools and pre-schools, and youth groups in Salem and Cumberland counties are encouraged to design and decorate a scarecrow - full size scarecrows for upper grade levels and mini scarecrows for the little children. Rutgers Master Gardeners will supply scarecrow kits. Students will supply creativity and help decorate the zoo for the Halloween favorite “Boo in the Zoo!” For entry forms, call 451-2800, ext. 4.

Master Gardeners’ butterfly tent will be open for all to feed these beautiful creatures. Also, Master Gardener’s children’s table will feature Animals of the Farm and Forests – Recognizing Them by Their Tracks and Scat. There will be various learning stations, a scavenger hunt, face painting, and scarecrow judging.

Rutgers Master Gardeners of Cumberland County is hoping business organizations will help them offer a monetary prize of $100 for the winning school’s art department and/or for youth organization special projects. The sponsor’s check will be written directly to the school.

Sponsors are invited to set up their corporate displays at the Zoo during “September Fun Day.”
