BRIDGETON — Some ways that residents can save energy and keep costs down during the warm months include the following:

•Set thermostat at a slightly higher temperature than usual in the summer. The smaller difference between the inside and outside temperatures, the lower the overall cooling bill

•Keep the shades shut in the summer to block the sun’s heat

•Do not obstruct airflow by placing furniture over the heating and cooling vents. Blocking the heating and cooling vents may cause your air conditioner to work harder and run longer

•When using a window air conditioner, also consider using an interior fan to ensure better airflow. The interior fan will spread the cooler air throughout the home with lower power use than an air conditioner.
