VINELAND — People who need a helping hand during the current difficult times now have a new, noteworthy source of assistance. The Cumberland Cape Atlantic YMCA is offering free food boxes each week to those who reserve ahead of time. There are both produce boxes and nonperishable emergency food boxes. To sign up, interested individuals should email to learn weekly pickup dates and times. All are welcome to participate. This project was initiated through a partnership with the New Jersey State Alliance of YMCAs and the Community Food Bank of New Jersey.

The original plan was to provide emergency food kits, which include spaghetti, rice, peanut butter, pasta, and canned goods. These are all long lasting staples. Thanks to the generosity of Seashore Fruit and Produce, of Vineland, the scope was recently broadened to provide fresh items, such as apples, carrots, cucumbers, melons, lettuce, and more. The program is expected to run through the summer months. For answers to specific questions, call 691-0030.
