Cumberland County College’s One Book-One College reading campaign will be highlighted by a visit from Carlotta Walls LaNier, author of A Mighty Long Way: My Journey to Justice at Little Rock Central High School. LaNier will make a personal appearance at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30 in the theatre of the Guaracini Arts Center, Sherman Avenue and College Drive. Admission to the event is free and the public is welcomed. Breaking her silence and sharing her story for the first time, LaNier has written an engrossing account that is a testament not only to the power of a single person to make a difference, but also to the sacrifices made by families and communities that found themselves a part of history. Now in its 10th year, the goal of CCC’s successful One Book-One College campaign is to encourage reading for pleasure, critical thinking, global awareness and multicultural understanding, and to get the campus and the community to bond by discussing relevant themes covered in a single book.
