Broad Street Church and Cemetery will be the scene of a unique celebration in honor of the 150th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation. The Broad Street Cemetery Association, which has been responsible for restoring the 200-year-old cemetery, will bring together volunteers who will sing, read poetry, share their knowledge of local history, and conduct a tour of the cemetery. The gathering is planned for noon May 27. Bring a lunch. About 12:40 picnickers will be invited into the old brick church for the program. Choirs from the Trinity AME Church of Gouldtown and the Mt. Zion and First Presbyterian Churches of Bridgeton will provide songs.
