The 16th Annual Run for the Schooner fund-raiser event is planned for Saturday, April 6 at the Bayshore Center at Bivalve, 2800 High St. Registration starts at 8 a.m. The event benefits the schooner A.J. Meerwald and local and international Rotary projects. For more information call 785-2060. Participants can sign up to walk or run the 5K or a 1-mile Fun Run route that traverses gravel and dirt bike paths and paved rural roads through scenic wetlands and the historic villages of Port Norris and Bivalve. Children in strollers and pets on leashes are welcome, and birders might want to bring their binoculars. Entry fees are $15 for adults; $10 for children ages 14 and under. Advance registration is recommended. On the day of the race, the entry fee for the 5K will be $20 for adults. Race T-shirts will be given to the first 100 registrants. Participants are encouraged to recruit sponsors and raise additional funds and can earn sail tickets and other prizes based on their fundraising efforts. Participating groups can work together to raise larger sums and can earn a private Charter Sail or Education Sail on the tall ship for up to 41 passengers.
